Something To Say... How long did you take to compose this album? Kevin: This album's been work in progress for over a year. I wrote about 17 tunes and finally narrowed it down to 10. How did you get inspired to do an album? Kevin: You mean writing songs? I find my inspiration listening to other songwriters. I'm most effective scouring through Borders listening to Cd after Cd. After about three hours, i almost always walk away with a rough sketch, theme or feel of what i want. Different words/titles also strike me and inspire me to write - 'Sandcastles', 'Crashing' and 'Though I love Her' would be such examples, sometimes a certain word or phrase will evoke many emotions What was the journey like in the production? Kevin: As always, very challenging. In minute details of writing and recording, I had to constantly step back to view the songs as a whole, and make sure there is a certain flow, and that tunes feel comfortable, fitting into the theme of the whole project. There were times when i felt ill-equipped and handicapped. there are many areas where I would prefer working in a team, given a choice. Decisions like album theme (in the early stages), artwork, engineering, mixing and editing, promotion and advertising, accounting, giving interviews (!) are stuff I would rather not go at alone. Though there are challenges and setbacks, the rewards pile in real-time and outweigh the odds throughout the experience. How do you feel about your latest album? Kevin: I am amazed as I listen to the final product, and having witnessed them take its shape and form and have its own life. I look back and see my growth as a musician and songwriter and can't help but be amazed at the plans God has for me. I want to be part of His plan, where my gifts could be used, to write in and out of church, in the relevant colors and languages of people everywhere. So that regardless of my listeners' beliefs, they would know what I'm about and hopefully come close to appreciate the things i love, believe in, and see why I love this God who made me.
