It was a hot and sunny day when approximately 100 youths from island-wide came to fill St. Peter’s Auditorium to join in SACCRE Youth's ABLAZE Rally.
After the ice breaking game by Living Stone Campus Outreach, people were already warming up readily. The event was continued with Praise and Worship session led and accompanied by NTU-CSA group. With Ria and Marcel leading worship, the band consisted of Naomi (keyboardist), Maggy (drummer), Nino (bassist), Leroy and Reynard (Guitarists). We lifted up four songs -- Give Us Clean Hands, Testify to Love, For All You’ve Done, and One Desire -- to invite the Holy Spirit's presence into our midst.
The atmosphere was peaceful. We moved on towards the came to the peak of the afternoon; when Edwyn de Souza delivered his message on the theme of “Testify to Love”. Edwyn is one of the coordinators of Catholic Archdiocesan Youth Centre Singapore. In his explanation, he mentioned about the importance of witnessing about our faith. It must go beyond our words and acts for testifying to love.
Edwyn showed that John Paul II, who is one of the greatest people of the Church in the last century, mentioned how important it is to tighten relationship with God. As we know, Karol Wojtyla, the child-name of John Paul II, was an ordinary person back in his teenage years. However, with great motivation and guidance of the Holy Spirit, he was able to answer God’s calling to be Priest, Parish Priest, Bishop, Archbishop, Cardinal, and finally the Pontiff.
In conjunction with that, we should be able to offer our whole life to Him, always asking for the Holy Spirit’s guidance in answering God’s calling. It is important to always include God in every single decision in our lives; be it education, career, relationship, or future.
After the inspiring session, we had a time for healing and praying over, where many leaders helped to pray for each of the participant's needs individually. It was relaxed and free, you could choose to go up and pray for something, or sit down and just enjoy the presence of God.
Finally, the whole rally ended with a prayer, fellowship session and mass. With the short time for fellowship, we look forward to the next ABLAZE rally once again to get to know each other better and to learn more about God and move on towards establishing his kingdom!
Ablaze (a novel name for the prayer meeting) was held on Saturday 11 March 2006 at Christ of the King Church, Ang Mo Kio. Ablaze is held to accommodate catholic young people from all over Singapore gather to pray, praise, fellowship, learn and be inspired. Currently, SACCRE consists of several archdiocese groups such as NTU-CSA Charismatic Prayer Group, Amplify Ministries, Living Stones Campus Outreach, Jesus Youth, and Praise @ Work. There are also two parish-based groups which are Youth Arise Ministry (OLPS) and John 10:10 (Holy Spirit).
